Stories of the not so BIG Bad WolfMy name is Maria. I am from Poland. In Poland we have wolves that live in the remote parts of the countryside. A long time ago we had many more wolves. But today there are only a few left. This is because people were scared of them. They thought that the wolves would harm them so people used to hunt them and shoot them. Today people understand that wolves are like all other wild animals - they just want to live in peace without harming people. Now I will tell you a very old story about a wolf who didnīt do what was expected of him. Once upon a time long long ago in the middle of the winter when it was very cold and windy and the snow was thick on the ground - a poor old wolf was shivering in the middle of the large dark forest. He was lost and alone. He was tired and very hungry. And he was feeling very sorry for himself. He did not know what to do. He was a long way away from his home. He had been looking for food for days and days and now he was lost in the big dark forest. He was sitting under a big old tree - shivering and feeling very sorry for himself. Then all of a sudden he heard a little voice. It was a lamb. The lamb saw the wolf and felt sorry for him. She was not scared of the wolf. The lamb had not heard stories about how the sneaky wolf would play tricks on other animals so he could catch them and eat them. The lamb walked up to the wolf and asked. "Are you alright Mr Wolf?" "No." replied the wolf. "I am cold and tired and hungry." The lamb felt sorry for the wolf and invited him back to her house. On the way the lamb said to the wolf "Why donīt you snuggle up to my nice warm fleece - it will protect you from the cold wind as we walk along." The wolf did this and it made him feel a little better. When they got to the lambīs home she invited the wolf to sit by the fire and warm himself. After a short while the wolf felt much better, his fur was warm and dry and he didnīt feel so miserable but he still felt very hungry. The lamb told the wolf that she only had a little food left to eat and that the wolf was welcome to share it with her and that he was welcome to stay in her home as long as he liked. The lamb and the wolf sat by the fire and talked about the many wonderful things they had seen in their lives. They talked about the happy times they had and the laughs they shared with their friends. As they talked they shared what little food the lamb had saved for the cold winter nights. The lamb told the wolf about how wonderful the pastures were where she and her brothers and sisters played in the summer and how good the grass tasted and about the games they played and the fun they had. As the lamb spoke the wolf said to himself - how lucky the lamb was to have lots of brothers and sisters to play with. The wolf told the lamb about the many adventures he had exploring the wonderful mountains and mysterious forests and how beautiful the sunsets were and how exciting it was to see shooting stars at night. As the wolf spoke the lamb thought how lucky the wolf was to be alone, free to roam and explore the world around him. As they sat by the fire talking and eating and warming themselves, the wolf felt his tummy rumbling and he thought how hungry he was. He thought how much better he would feel if he had a warm and tasty meal inside him. Then he looked at the lamb and thought.... how much happier he was now that he had made a new friend who trusted him and shared her home and the last of her food. The lamb and the wolf became great friends as they talked and laughed all night long - and when the sun rose the next day thay saw that the snow had melted, the wind had stopped howling and it was warm outside. The lamb and the wolf parted company as great friends and the wolf thought how much better it was to have a good friend for life rather than a tasty meal for one night.
